From Borsh the coastal road rises to the villages of Piqeras and Lukove where prefabricated buildings and warehouses are reminiscent of the agro-operative of the Riviera. Residents of the region, 80,000 "volunteers" from the cities and forced laborers performed their services here and facilitated Enver Hoxha’s agricultural land revolution. Without any machinery, they constructed terraces and irrigation channels over sixty years, planted 650,000 olive and citrus trees, dried marshes and built roads. Our hike follows the prisoner’s path through shaded olive groves and rolling hills till we reach the sea.
